I. National Standard System

General technical conditions

GB/T 20118-2017: Covers general technical requirements of wire ropes, including materials, manufacturing processes, mechanical properties and inspection methods.

GB/T 34198-2017: For crane wire rope, specified structure (diameter 6-70mm), accept method and maintenance requirements.

GB 8903-2024: Inspection and performance requirements for wire ropes for elevators 6.GB/T 8918-2006: Inspection standards for wire ropes for important purposes, including key parameters such as chemical composition and tensile strength 6.



ii. Classification and technical requirements

1. Classification of rope core materials

Hemp core/cotton core: soft lubricated, but poor in high temperatures and poor pressure resistance.

Asbestos core: suitable for high temperature environments, but with weak pressure resistance.

‌Metal Core: Resistance to high temperature and high pressure, but less flexibility.


‌2. Structural feature classification‌

Differences in twisting method: distortions of right hand intertwining, distortions of left hand intertwining and other same/reverse distortion types.

Contact method: Point and contact points (easy to wear), line contact (good waterproofness), surface contact (high strength).

The braid length must be 15 times the rope diameter and ≥300mm, and the strength must exceed more than 75% of the rupture tension.
